📣 The social media stats, trends and data you need to know
Here’s the slide deck, giving you a network-by-network run through all of the most important updates you need to know for March.
If you’re not one for revelling in the details, there are 3 overarching themes that have dominated this month.
1️⃣ Search is set for a shake-up. The Google + Reddit deal demonstrates how buyer preference is changing and the incredible impact that a community and a strong brand have.
2️⃣ TikTok growth might be slowing, but it does not mean it’s time is over. That said, Meta’s suite of products are experiencing a renaissance of organic growth, driven by Instagram and Facebook Reels.
3️⃣ LinkedIn is truly carving its own path in the social media landscape. Freed from copying other platforms (bye-bye Creator Mode & Stories etc.) they are leaning into being the platform of education and true industry insight.
🚨 Stat of the month
Users between 30-49 are now TikTok’s fastest-growing segment. They are also the segment that is posting the most. This has several implications.
On a positive note, TikTok is not just for teens anymore. It’s rapidly maturing into a platform to reach a broad demographic.
The downside is that the rapid maturing of its user-base is driving younger users elsewhere (mostly back to Instagram) and is compromising TikTok’s overall growth.
📣 New feature of the month
Usually, I try and highlight the ONE single new feature that I see as the most impactful. This month I’m torn, so I’m copping out and sharing 3 features.
Instagram now allows you to post up to 15 ‘slides’ in a carousel. You were previously limited to 10 ‘slides’ in a carousel, so this gives us more creative freedom.
Carousels are Instagram’s 2nd highest performing post type (behind Reels, obvs.) Simply put, having more slides in a carousel means a higher chance of our post being discovered. Why? Instagram will typically show another slide of a carousel in the feed if a user scrolls past the first slide initially.
Don’t forget you can post a mix of static and video content in a carousel.
LinkedIn now enables you to sponsor ANY organic post. Before you were limited to only promoting posts from your employees.
This is massive for B2B’s. We know personal profiles will typically drive higher engagement than Company page posts and this update means we can be more creative in our approach.
Think about testing out a paid LinkedIn campaign promoting a high-performing organic post from your employee. Or, encourage and incentivise your customers to share a review or testimonial of which you can then put budget behind.
This new feature also encourages us to lean into collaborations more. As many of you know, this is my No.1 rule for growing on social media. If you’re running a podcast, webinar or just highlighting work you’ve done with a partner, promoting your partners’ post on LinkedIn gives us immediate social proof and allows our sponsored content to stand out in the feed.
Instagram analytics comes to desktop. Now it’s easier than ever to evaluate the performance of our content.
👉 Tip of the month
What links the world’s biggest YouTube channel with one of the fastest-growing podcasts?
Their approach to testing thumbnails.
Both Mr. Beast and Diary Of A CEO have an incredible strategy for testing thumbnails, which has been a huge contributor to their growth.
Now, whilst many of us would struggle to stretch to the rigour of Mr. Beasts’ approach, I think the DOAC team’s strategy is achievable for anyone.
Simply put, they test multiple variations of a thumbnail as a Facebook ad before an episode goes live. This helps them determine which thumbnail drives the highest click through rate (CTR). Whichever thumbnail is the winner, is the one they will run.
Given how essential the opening ‘hook’ is in any type of content, replicating their approach for your high value content pieces is definitely worth the extra effort for the additional results it generates.
🗞️ In other news…
We’ve added the ability to publish to multiple social media accounts in Adobe Express. Now you can manage multiple brands and/or clients in one place 🎉
If you’re not familiar with Adobe Express, it’s a free, all-in-one content creation app. In this video, I guide you thorough how you can use its features to speed up social media content creation.
📬 See you next month!
