TL;DR
Your monthly round-up of all of the #socialmedia changes and updates is here. And these are the 6 key takeaways from all of the changes this month.
🤖 Generative AI is becoming ubiquitous across social platforms and helping unlock creativity. From AI chat bots, to auto-generated ideas and copy on LinkedIn - this is the start of a whole new chapter for social media.
🎥 Instagram and Facebook Reels growth start to make strides against TikTok. People are spending more time than ever watching videos on Facebook and Instagram.
🧳 Facebook Professional Mode gains many new features and is the number one way to generate organic reach on Facebook right now. Honestly, I've been blown away by the view counts of Facebook Reels published to my ProMode personal profile.
📸 YouTube Shorts continues to be an incredible tool for brands to build reach and repurpose long-form videos into short-form content.
📩 The latest data on platform user overlaps shows us the importance of thinking multi-channel. Quite simply, we are missing opportunities if we are only posting to one channel.
💡 Consumers are increasingly turning to social media to research brands (more so than Google) and it’s our job to meet our potential customers where they are.
Stat of the month
Social media is continuing to influence how consumers find products. Social media discovery has already overtaken Google search and the reason is simple.
It’s down to trust.
Recommendations/comments on social media continues to rank highly, as it underpins the way that we as humans make decisions. We go with what’s popular and we go with what people we trust say (hence the importance of influencers, ambassadors and communities).
As a general rule our success on social media should not be judged by what we say about ourselves, but what others say about us.
Tip of the month
The average social media user is on nearly 7 platforms. The chart below tracks the overlaps between channels and perfectly demonstrates the importance of thinking multi-channel.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a big proponent of majoring in one platform - building a network, engaging with comments etc.
But, when you see that 87% of LinkedIn users are also on Facebook and 52% use TikTok, you realise there's so much additional opportunity to improve your reach by publishing your content across multiple channels.
Chart of the month
The latest data from GWI shows what users of each social media platform want to see in their feed.
This can be very helpful in enabling us to refine how we approach each channel. The element that stands out to me is the desire of TikTok users to use the platform directly to research and discovery new brands.
