TL;DR
Here are the 6 key takeaways from all of the changes this month. ⬇️
Social media continues to have an incredible impact on society, nearly 60% of the world’s population (4.8 billion people) use social media every month.
Facebook continues to promote the use of Reels, which means good organic growth potential. (Maybe now’s the time to start rethinking our Facebook strategy?)
YouTube Shorts continues to offer a great opportunity for small businesses. (It feels like YouTube Shorts is like TikTok 2 years ago. It’s growing rapidly, both in terms of usage and new features - so I expect it to emerge as a strong platform for small businesses.
LinkedIn’s strong growth, organic reach and SEO value mean it’s continuing to look like a solid platform for any type of business to drive growth.
Twitter appears to be tilting more towards a ‘pay to play’ model with their constant investment in Twitter Blue. (A model that’s also being closely watched by Meta)
Instagram is re-focusing on photos, having pushed Reels too heavily. This renewed focus and more community-led new features could re-invigorate organic reach.
Stat of the month
Just 1% of social media users only use one platform. That means that if we want to reach our audience, we need to think about distributing our content across multiple channels.
The chart below takes a moment to digest, but it is really useful in helping you plan for the other platforms you might want to re-purpose your content to.
Taking the example below, if Instagram is the primary channel you focus on, it’s helpful to know that 82% of Instagram users are also using Facebook and 75% are using YouTube - meaning that we could maximise the chances of our content being seen if we repurpose our Instagram content across these two channels.
Tip of the month
In a similar vein to the stat above, ‘repurposing’ is a simple way to maximise the impact of your content across multiple platforms.
Of course, that seems pretty obvious, but publishing written content across platforms is not just a pretty simple thing to do, it seems to be working well, too.
With all of the talk of Reels, Shorts and TikTok, it’s easy to forget the humble text post, but creators are increasingly realising the power of the written word, repurposed across even the non-traditional text-based platforms.
