TL;DR
These are the four key takeaways from all of the changes this month.
🧶 Threads’ rapid growth starts to slow down. (Not unexpected considering the rapid early growth). Despite this, engagement rates are still well ahead of Twitter.
👨👨👧👧 Instagram allows for up to three collaborators per post. This means that we now have the ability to 3x our ability for our content to be discovered by new audiences. (Remember that when you add collaborators to your Instagram posts, that post is published to each of their feeds).
🧳 Facebook are really starting to push Reels now. I said it last month, but I’ll say it again; Facebook Professional Mode is the number one way to generate organic reach on Facebook right now. Honestly, I've been blown away by the view counts of Facebook Reels published to my ProMode personal profile.
🖊 LinkedIn looks to ignite our imagination with new post ideas and an ability to ‘draft with AI’. We’re seeing so many of these new types of content ‘assistants’ appear on social platforms.
Stat of the month
🔻 A perfect example of why 'going viral' is NOT the goal. I wish more people were as open and honest as Charlie about what the true impact of going viral is. (Click on the Tweet see the story)
Us social media folk often aspire to ‘go viral’ and tend to admire those that do - but all too infrequently do we hear of the true business impact.
Despite 4M impressions, 100K replies and 5K profile views. This 'viral' post led to 150 new followers and $0 of new revenue.
Not that this exposure is bad at all, it's just a good reminder that 'success' is more nuanced than the top-level metrics many obsess over.
There are some clear lessons here:
1. Using humour to provide your take on a topical subject is a solid starting point
2. Creating content that people feel compelled to respond to is our absolute priority.
3. If this content does not relate to what you do, its impact will be minimal.
Most importantly, though..
Relevancy (knowing thy audience) x Consistency (of both topic and frequency) are the keys to success
In a strangely meta way, I expect Charlie's post about the impact of the tweet that went viral will lead to better business outcomes...
It's an interesting read and a nice example to show our bosses or clients' that there is more to social media success than surface-level metrics 😉
Tip of the month
Whilst many enjoy pontificating on what’s going on with Twitter, there is still opportunity to grow on the platform (it’s far from dead). Here are some of Twitter’s own validated tips.
Chart of the month
Nearly 60% of the world’s population logs into a social network every single month, but within that massive number, there are some interesting shifts happening…
As we shared last week, more people are turning to social media ahead of search to discover new products. Considering that one of the most lucrative audience segments (the over 50’s) are now the fastest growing cohort in terms of time spent on social media, this presents a very interesting opportunity for brands.
That’s it for this week, we so hope you found this useful 🙌
