TL;DR
Here are the 6 key takeaways from all of the changes this month. ⬇️
✂️ More editing and analytics tools are making Instagram Reels easier than ever to create
🔗 We can now add up to 5 links in our Instagram bios, potentially spelling the end of 3rd party tools like LinkTree
💰 Twitter is the first social network to go full “pay to play” - meaning you'll need to pay if you want to get your content seen
🤔 More content is being shared in DM’s as opposed to the feed and the social networks are creating solutions to support this more private sharing
🤖 AI continues to have a big impact on social platforms. Snapchat is a platform that’s worthwhile keeping an eye on, even if you don’t intent to post there, the developments they pioneer are often copied by other networks.
🍋 Keep an eye on Lemon8 as it continues to grow into the latest significant social platform
Stat of the month
Lemon8 is the latest social media platform to gain significant traction. Think of it as a mash-up between Instagram (for the aesthetic) and Pinterest (for the ability to curate and organise collections).
Importantly, it’s owned by Bytedance (TikTok’s parent company), so it’s got the means to get very big. In fact, TikTok creators have been promoting Lemon8 on their channels to create as much buzz as possible ahead of the full launch, which is planned for May.
Clearly, the strategy is working…
Tip of the month
Matt Lehnhoff is one of my new favourite LinkedIn creators. He’s documenting his path to 50K followers and his content is a goldmine of good stuff.
This caption check list is such a useful and practical guide to create engaging captions. This advice is applicable to every social platform.
Quote of the month
Creating social content regularly is hard and every post won’t perform in the way you want it to. And that’s OK.
Viral hits feel good at the time, but rarely turn into consistent success.
Consistency wins in the long run.
This quote from Steph Smith captures this perfectly:
I’ve come to learn that being “great” not about overnight successes or flashes of excellence, but periods of repeatable habits. Perhaps “great’, is just “good”, but repeatable. If you don’t have the opportunity to “do great things”, focus on consistently achieving small wins. These small things in fact do not need to be done in a great way, but a good way, repeatably. In fact, I would advise not to focus on perfection, as it is often the enemy of the successful.
The BEST Content Strategy
Jordan and I both the share the same mission to simplify what it takes for small businesses to succeed on social media.
So, we’ve decided to help out those that are time-poor and in need of a little inspiration.
We’ve created the BEST content strategy to give anyone a simple-to-follow structure to create a killer social media strategy.
The strategy is created from 3 parts and is built around four ‘pillars’. (These pillars are the foundations that all content is created on).
Content pillars:
👋 Bond (Introduce and Engage)
🏫 Educate (Build trust through providing value)
💅 Showcase (Demonstrate your expertise)
📣 Tell (Define the action you want your followers to take)
Content Topics:
On top of these ‘pillars’ we have ‘topics’. These topics provide the outline for the post.
You’ll find each pillar and its associated topic in this deck.
Post ideas:
We’ve also created a whole library of social media prompts for you. With over 25 post ideas and templates linked to these pillars and topics.
This link (which only works on desktop for now), will take you to the post inspiration library, hosted for free on Adobe Express, of which you can use in the following ways:
🎨 Edit and download the post ideas you like
➡️ Create a free Adobe Express account and copy the whole library to your own account, so you can use these ideas whenever you need.
📅 Plan out your content calendar for the next month using the Adobe Express Content Scheduler and schedule each of these ideas to be published across Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and Pinterest with one-click.
🚨 Free social media course for small business
My good friend, and fellow small business owner, Attabeira has created this course - using the ‘BEST Content strategy’ - and is an excellent short guided course for any small business that wants to make social media work for them.
That’s it for this week, we so hope you found this useful 🙌 (don’t forget to share this newsletter with your friends 😊)
